AYR Aviation Ltd to deliver aid in Haiti

Monday 22nd September 2008

AYR Aviation Ltd is proud to have been selected to participate in the UN World Food Programme's post-hurricane disaster relief operation in Haiti.

Two of our helicopters and their crews are in the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, preparing to fly.

Haiti is suffering from extreme flooding and storm damage as a result of four tropical storms - Fay, Gustav, Hanna and Ike - in recent weeks. The western city of Gonaives has been particularly badly affected with practically every home sustaining some damage and many containing two to three feet of water. Many people are homeless and living in shelters and schools. The WFP estimates that in Gonaives alone 800,000 people are in desperate need of help.

Haiti's agriculture has been wiped out by the storms, contributing to the current severe food shortage. In addition the road system has been ruined and several of the mountainous country's key bridges...

Same values, new identity

Monday 19th November 2007

As the company drives into 2008, it is pleased to launch its new corporate identity under the name of "AYR Aviation". The new branding encompasses AYR's expanding international reach, as the company opens a new office in the UAE and a second corporate base in the USA. These will greatly add to AYR's globally integrated structure and will broaden our portfolio of business centres to cover a total of nine nations: UK, USA, Switzerland, UAE, Russia, Cyprus, Moldova, Ukraine and Sudan.

The new branding and company expansion reflect AYR's core strength in providing "local experience - worldwide" and the mission of AYR Aviation remains unchanged since the company's launch in1993: to re-define the parameters of what can be achieved through helicopter and fixed-wing support in some of the world's most inhospitable and austere environments.

Reflections on Sudan

Tuesday 10th October 2006

In October 2004, AYR deployed several rotor-wind and fixed-wing aircraft to Sudan in support of the African Union Mission in Sudan, AMIS. AYR had been contracted by a US Government contractor and service provider; funding for the project is being provided by the US Department of State.

Since their initial deployment, the AYR fleet has accumulated more than 10,000 hours of accident-free flight time, and has transported:

  • 23,700 passengers
  • 14,500 tons of cargo
  • 1,000,000 gallons of jet fuel.

AYR achieved all of this without any significant unscheduled down-time of its aircraft and our performance record in Sudan is second to none. Operating in an environment like the Darfur region entails dealing with unique challenges. Meteorological conditions ranged from debilitating and performance-decreasing heat, to flooding of enormous...

Pakistan: Flying doctors help earthquake survivors get through the winter

Saturday 15th April 2006

AYR is pleased to repeat the following, taken from a Merlin press release:

"The Mi-8 helicopter has begun delivering medicines, equipment and food to five field clinics set up by the medical aid charity, Merlin. In addition, a team of four medics are being ferried daily to outlying settlements to tend to patients who are unable to reach the field bases.

The tented clinics, which treat around 2,500 people every week, are scattered across Pakistan-administered Kashmir, the epicentre of the earthquake which struck in October last year. Frequent landslides, as well as heavy snow and rainfall, mean that roads to the sites are blocked for much of the time.

Jean-Fran├žois Briere, Merlin's Country Director in Pakistan, said: "Having a dedicated helicopter enables us to maintain the best possible health services right through the depths of winter. Our teams are dealing with urgent cases such...

AYR flying for Merlin

Wednesday 8th February 2006

London-based AYR Aviation welcomes major international humanitarian charity "Merlin" to its growing list of major clients. AYR's Gavin Connolly said, "I am delighted that Merlin will be using our aircraft in Pakistan for the first time. It gives us a great opportunity to demonstrate our capabilities in a very difficult environment for helicopter operations".

Merlin is to lease an Mi-8 transport helicopter from AYR Aviation to support their hospital outreach programme.

Merlin have deliberately set up their mobile medical facilities in remote areas of the Himalayan foothills, to support those still suffering from the October earthquake and now the bitter winter that has arrived with a vengeance.

The locations of the clinics are on the very edge of helicopter performance, but AYR is confident that their highly experienced crews are more than equal to the...
